Allen Arms Introduction To Action Handgun Competition

  • Purpose of Course- This course is designed to introduce interested experienced shooters to the action shooting sports such as IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association), USPSA (United States Practical Shooters Association), CPSL (Carolina Practical Shooters League), etc. These sports involve firing at targets while being timed, and the time is part of the score. Targets include paper silhouttes, metal, and moving targets, to name some. Topics covered include drawing of the firearm, multiple targets, reloading, shooting while moving, use of covered, situation analysis and response, safety requirements, rules, classification, firearms and other equipment used, tactics, range commands, scoring, and the shooting organizations themselves. Shooting techniques covered will include stance, grip, draw and presentation, shooting from retention, sighted and point shooting, use of barricades and other cover, shooting while moving forwards, backwards, and laterally, correcting pistol malfunctions while shooting, and shooting with two hands, left hand and right hand only. Practice techniques for continued inprovement will be learned.
  • Age Requirements- 16, with parental supervision.
  • Prerequisites- Prior training such as Introduction to Handguns and/or Personal Training in basic shooting techniques is recommended and very helpful, but not required. Contact instructor for details if needed.
  • Time- 3.5 hours.
  • Equipment Needed- Handgun of your choice, restricted to full-size or compact handguns (pistols or revolvers), no sub-compacts, of 9mm/.38 Spec. caliber; at least 2 spare magazines/reloaders, hip holster, mag/reloader pouch, eye and ear protection, 150 rounds of ammunition. Any of these may be obtained at the range. Firearms can be provided by the range free of charge.
  • Activities Involved- A  review of safety and basic techniques, with classroom instruction on the appropriate subjects, then intensive shooting combined with further instruction on the range.
  • Maximum enrollment- 10.
  • Cost- $80.00 per attendee. Must be paid in advance.
