January 2012
Here we are in the "Blizzard of 2010". Seriously, it does seem to be freezing up outside. What was slush when we opened is ice now. We will have to keep an eye on it.
I apologize for the delay in sending the newsletter, but the Ellet, Acusport, and Shot shows tied us up for a while. By the way, I need ideas as to what to do with this Harley I won at Ellett Brothers. I know many of you would love to take off my hands as a favor, but I think something more equitable is called for.
I have a few things to share with you. First are some new classes that are available. Mike Sexton has decided to offer a class dedicated to the application of the tactical carbine. Details can be accessed at http://www.allenarms.net/classtactrifle.html
The first class, Feb 7, is already full. The next class is scheduled for March 7.
Bob Gibson is offering another maintenance course. His initial course on AR maintenance was well received, and we saw a need for one on handguns. So if you or anyone you know needs more knowledge in the care and feeding of your pistola, take a look. The info will be on the website shortly. The first class will be Feb 18.
Now for matches. The Sitting Duck match on 1-21 was a good event, though turnout was a little light. But, that allowed us to give everyone more chances to shoot by changing to triple elimination instead of double. Some new shooters came on strong. Dean Andrews won first place, and Todd Morrison placed second. Angie Stokes won Ladies category.
On 1-27 there was a very good Bullseye competition. Again, newer shooters dominated. Shawn Pawley won first in both Centerfire (284 score) and Rimfire (289), and overall high score, obviously. Second in Centerfire was Greg Hogshead (277), and third was Tom Miller (268). Second in Rimfire was Dean Andrews (273), and third was Bob Lewis (249). Angie Stokes took the Ladies medal with a 252.
You really should try these competitions. Nothing will make shooting fun again like competition, and show you what you need to improve on. Our next one will be the most exciting, the Bowling Pin match, on Thursday 2-4. Check it out at
http://www.allenarms.net/competition.html
On the political front, things are quiet. It appears the Democrat's loss of Teddy Kennedy's Senate seat in Massachusetts has really rocked them. Hillary Clinton, as Secretary of State, has committed to our participation in a UN treaty to control the trade of small arms (read: restrict/ban), at a yet to be announced date. The good news is that whatever they come up with will have to be ratified by the senate, and there are nervous there now.
Well, thanks for your patience and support. We hope to see you soon-
Frank Allen
